Distribution centres: Start and End Points of Day

Written by Arthur Ashdown

As a rule, a working day of a driver starts and ends at the depot. But sometimes there is no need for drivers to start their working day at the depot. For example, if a company is using sub-contractors and spot-hire vehicles, the working day can start at a driver's home address and end at the last order's location or at some other location.

To cover this kind of workflow, use the Start and End points of day section in the Distribution centre form, where you can select locations, where drivers should start and finish their working day.

Note: We have moved this setting from distribution centre settings to driver settings Once set in the Driver settings, the Start and End Points of day will be used by default for the newly created drivers of this DC. If you have drivers already created or if you have changed the DC start and end points, then you will have to set up the start and end points for each driver in the corresponding Driver form ( see start and end of day locations ).

How to Set up Start and End Points of Day in the Driver form

Go to the Drivers screen of the Setting tab and select the driver. Start and End points of day section is found in the Execution tab.

You can see that in both **Start ** and End of day locations the “Distribution Centre” option is used by default. Click the dropdowns to see other options.

Setting Up the Start of Day Location

By clicking the Start of day location dropdown, the following two options are displayed:

  • Distribution centre – driver starts the working day at the DC;

  • Specify address – driver starts the working day at some different address.

If the Specify address option is selected, the system will prompt you to type in the address or search on the map.

Besides, when selecting the Specify address option, a new field appears, called Visit distribution centre. Click the dropdown to view the two options available here:

  • No (reload at start) - Driver will return to the specified start point after each run, not visiting the depot (Selected by default);

  • To reload between runs - -Driver will return to DC after each run;

  • Only with deliveries - Driver needs to go to the DC before deliveries to load the goods.-

Setting Up the End of Day Location

Next, you need to specify the end of day location. By clicking the End of day location dropdown, the following options are displayed:

  • Distribution centre – driver finishes the working day at the DC;

  • Specify address – driver finishes the working day at some different address. If selected, you set the address up as_shown _above;

  • Last order – driver finishes his work day upon reaching the last order location without coming back to the DC
