Sometimes it may be necessary to limit the run distance for some vehicles. For example, if a company uses battery-driven (electric) vehicles, it is critical for all these vehicles to return to the depot before they are discharged. Using the Run distance limit option the dispatcher can set the run distance for certain vehicles.
How to set "Run distance limit" in MaxOptra
You can set the Run distance limit parameter for a vehicle in the Vehicle form either on Settings tab or on the Planning screen.
Setting Run distance limit by default
To set the Run distance limit on the Settings tab for an existing vehicle go to the Resource section and select the Vehicle page. Select a vehicle and specify Run distance limit in the distance units of your account (miles or kilometers), then click Update defaults to save your changes.
The program will use this parameter by default for this vehicle until you change it again.
Setting Run distance limit for a specific day
If you want to set the Run distance limit for a vehicle for a specified day or edit the existing value, click the vehicle card to open Vehicle form. Specify Run distance limit in the distance units of your account (miles or kilometers), then save your changes.
How the "Run distance limit" feature works in MaxOptra
During auto-planning, MaxOptra will not create the runs with distances exceeding the specified limit. In case MaxOptra cannot schedule an order due to exceeding distance limit, the warning is displayed: "Excess run distance":
When you plan manually, in case the run distance of a vehicle exceeds the run distance limit, MaxOptra will show the warning in the vehicle card and in the "tail" of the run:
