Creating drivers

Written by Arthur Ashdown

Drivers in MaxOptra represent the drivers of your fleet. They are assigned to vehicles and are used for building routes.

Many parameters of a driver affect automatic planning:

  • The Availability hours define driver's work/break time for each day which is taken into account when planning;

  • The Break can be automatically shifted by makes planning more effective by shifting the driver's breaks;

  • Duty time limit and Driving limit parameters define planning boundaries by limiting the hours the driver can work per shift and driving hours per shift.

Note During manual planning some or all of these rules can be ignored.

To create a new driver, make sure the selected role is Account Administrator and you are on the Drivers page of the Settings tab:

On the bottom toolbar of the screen, click Add to open a new dialog of a driver:

  1. In the Name type the name of a driver.

  2. In the Distribution centre field, select the Distribution centre this driver is assigned to from the dropdown. The DC operation time, will be used by default when the driver is first created. You can change these values, if necessary.

  3. In the Vehicle field, select the vehicle this driver is assigned to from the dropdown.

  4. In the Cost per hour field, specify the cost (in pounds) for one hour of work of a driver.

  5. In the Availability hours section, select the days of the week when a driver is available and specify the driver's work and break time for each selected day.

  6. In the Break can be automatically shifted by field, specify the amount of time (in minutes) acceptable for shifting the break time, which is specified in the Availability hours section. This field is only available when fixed breaks are set for this account (see Manage your driving times ).

  7. In the Duty time limit field, specify the maximum amount of hours a driver can work per shift.

  8. In the Driving limit field, specify how many hours a driver can driveper day.

  9. In the Login and Password fields fill in the driver's login and password. Retype password in the Confirm password field.

  10. In the E-mail field type the driver's e-mail address.

  11. Specify other (optional) parameters of the driver, if necessary.

For more information about required and optional parameters of a driver, see Driver parameters.
