Configure and report CO2 emissions in MaxOptra

Steps to update your vehicles' CO2 emissions values and export CO2 data for your reports in MaxOptra.

Written by Andrei Mogosanu

MaxOptra estimates CO2 emissions from the planned mileage of each run allocated to a vehicle. Every vehicle starts with a default value of 891.21 gCO2/km, which you can replace with the vehicle's real emissions value. You can also exclude third-party vehicles from CO2 reporting and export CO2 data for your reports.

Update vehicle emissions values

Replace the default value with each vehicle's real emissions value so that CO2 estimates reflect the vehicle.

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Click Vehicles.

Go to Settings, then click Vehicles
  1. Click the vehicle you want to update.

Click the vehicle you want to update
  1. Update the emissions value in the gCO2/km field.

  2. Enter the emissions value for the vehicle in grams per kilometre.

  3. Click Update defaults.

Update vehicle defaults from the planning screen

You can also update a vehicle's defaults from the planning screen.

  • Select the vehicle on the planning screen, then update defaults from there.

Manage third-party and electric vehicles

Choose which vehicles are included in CO2 calculations and reports.

Exclude third-party vehicles from CO2 reporting

Third-party vehicles can be left out of the CO2 calculation.

  • Uncheck the CO2 emissions checkbox.

Mileage from runs allocated to these vehicles will not calculate an estimated CO2 value.

Include electric vehicles as zero emissions

Set electric vehicles to 0 so that their zero emissions show clearly in reports.

  • To include electric vehicles in CO2 reporting, set the vehicle's CO2 value to 0. The zero value then shows clearly in any report.

View planned CO2

Check planned CO2 for the whole distribution centre, by shift and by run.

Check the distribution centre KPI

The CO2 Emissions KPI for the whole distribution centre appears above the planning timeline. It updates when the schedule changes. If you have changed vehicle emissions values, the KPI may not be recalculated until the next planning session.

View planned CO2 per run

Use the table view to see planned CO2 for each shift and run.

  • Check CO2 by shift and by run by selecting the vehicle/driver card table view.

For multi-run shifts, the run table shows a CO2 value for each run.

Export CO2 estimates for reporting

Download run-level and order-level CO2 estimates from Reports.

Download run-level CO2 estimates

Run-level estimates show the estimated CO2 value for each run.

  1. Click Reports.

  2. Click Daily runs to view and download the estimated CO2 value for each run.

Configure report columns

Choose the columns that appear in your run-level report.

  • Click the settings cog icon to choose the report columns.

Download order-level CO2 estimates

Order-level estimates show the estimated CO2 for each order.

  • Click On time report to download the estimated CO2 for each order.

Export the report

Export the report to an Excel file for the dates and location you need.

  • Select the date range and Distribution Centre, then click Export .xlsx.

Review per-order CO2 in the export

The estimated CO2 for each order is included in the exported report. The first and last leg CO2 mileage of a run is shared equally across all orders on that run.

Set and read CO2 values with the API

Use the API to set CO2 values on vehicles and read planned CO2 for each run.

Set CO2 values on vehicles

Use the POST and PUT vehicle endpoints to set CO2 values on new and existing vehicles. The vehicle schema has two new fields.

  • co2e (number, up to 5 decimal places, maximum 2.00000): the vehicle's emissions in kg CO₂e/km. The portal default of 891.21 gCO₂/km is 0.89121 in this field.

  • includeInCo2Calculation (boolean): set to false to leave this vehicle's mileage out of CO2 calculations. This matches unchecking the checkbox when you exclude third-party vehicles.

📌Note: Values are in kilograms, not grams.

Read planned CO2 for runs

The GET /schedules response includes a co2e value for each run, reported in kg/km.
